Best random video chat sites right now

Nine random video chat sites we actually use, ranked by how fast you get a real person on the other end. Free, no account for most, adults-only sites kept off this list.

Checked September 14, 2026 · 9 platforms · ranked by fit, not by who pays. How we rank

Random video chat is the fastest way to have a conversation with a human being when you're bored. Not a feed, not a comment section - a face, live, right now. It's also a genre with a lot of junk in it, so this list is short and every site on it was opened, used and checked this week.

Here's how we ranked them. First, how quickly you get a real person - not a black screen, not a looping video, a person. Second, whether you can use it without installing anything or handing over an email. Third, moderation, because a site that lets anything happen empties out fast and leaves you with the worst of the internet at 2am. Adult cam sites aren't on this list. They're a different thing and they have their own page.

A few honest notes before you start. Every random chat site skews male. If you're a man hoping to talk to women, the free version of any of these will mostly show you other men, and the paid gender filters help less than they promise. Go in for conversation with whoever shows up and it's fun; go in with a target and it's frustrating.

Show your face and have some light on it. People skip blank screens in under a second. And don't share anything you wouldn't say to a stranger on a bus - your name, your city, your socials. Nobody needs them to have a good chat.

1OmeTV

Random video chatFree to startAccount optionalweb · iOS · Android

Best for: A big, international crowd with proper phone apps and moderators watching the feed.

Biggest crowd and the fastest matches at any hour

OmeTV is one of the larger random video chat services and it shows: you rarely wait for a match, and the mix of countries is wide. It runs in a browser and as apps on both phone platforms. Moderation is active, with reports handled fast, and the site publishes rules that get enforced. There's a country filter if you want it, and you can chat by text inside the video call, which helps when the languages don't line up.

Good
  • Big crowd, short waits at any hour
  • Country filter and in-call text with translation
  • Native apps for iOS and Android
Not so good
  • Some filters and extras are paid
  • Ban system can be blunt
  • Plenty of language mismatches without the filter

2Chatroulette

Random video chatFree to startAccount optionalweb

Best for: The original roulette experience in a browser tab - no app, no sign-up, next stranger in one click.

The original, still the purest version of the idea

Chatroulette is the site that started the whole genre, and it still works the same way: open the page, allow the camera, hit start, and you're face to face with a random person. Skip is instant. There's no app to install and nothing to fill in. Moderation got a lot stricter over the years, so nudity gets you banned quickly, which makes it calmer than it was in 2010 but also means matches are heavily skewed toward men looking for women.

Good
  • No download, no account to get started
  • Skip is instant and the queue is always busy
  • Strict moderation keeps it cleaner than its reputation
Not so good
  • Mostly men, so women get flooded and men wait
  • No gender or country filter
  • Bans can hit by mistake and there's nobody to appeal to

3CamSurf

Random video chatFree to startNo account neededweb · iOS · Android

Best for: A moderated, family-safe random video chat that takes its own rules seriously.

The moderated one - best first site to try

CamSurf positions itself as the clean one, and it mostly lives up to that. Moderators watch the feed, nudity and harassment get people removed, and the tone is friendlier than most. No sign-up is needed. It has apps for both phone platforms and a website. The crowd is smaller than the big names, so you may wait a bit at night, but what you get is more likely to be a person who actually wants to talk.

Good
  • Active moderation you can actually notice
  • No account, apps on both platforms
  • Friendlier crowd for first-timers
Not so good
  • Smaller pool, repeats when you skip a lot
  • Country filter is paid
  • Quieter late at night

4Emerald Chat

Random video chatFree to startAccount optionalweb

Best for: Matching by shared interests instead of pure luck, with text, video and group rooms in one place.

Interest matching so you meet people you can actually talk to

Emerald Chat tries to fix the thing that makes random chat tiring: talking to people you have nothing in common with. You add a few interests, and it leans matches toward people who picked the same ones. It has one-on-one text, one-on-one video and group chat rooms, plus a karma score that rewards people who don't get reported. You can use it without an account, but the account unlocks the matching and keeps your karma.

Good
  • Interest matching actually changes who you meet
  • Text, video and group rooms in one tab
  • Karma score keeps repeat offenders away from everyone else
Not so good
  • Free tier shows ads between matches
  • Gender filter is paid
  • Web only - the mobile site works but there's no proper app

5Monkey

Random video chatFree to startAccount requirediOS · Android · web

Best for: Fifteen-second video matches on your phone - if you both tap to add time, the chat continues.

Fifteen-second matches on your phone

Monkey is built around one rule: you get 15 seconds with a stranger, and the call only continues if both of you tap to extend it. That tiny mechanic changes the mood. Nobody feels trapped, so people are more relaxed in the first few seconds, and the ones who stay are actually interested. It's phone-first, the audience skews young adult, and it's loud - filters, music, quick banter. The company's terms require users to be 18 or older.

Good
  • 15-second matches take the pressure off the first hello
  • Proper iOS and Android apps, not a wrapped website
  • Duo mode lets you match with a friend beside you
Not so good
  • Account required, tied to your phone
  • Loud and fast - not for long conversations
  • 18+ by its own terms, so no under-18 audience

6Chatspin

Random video chatFree to startAccount optionalweb · iOS · Android

Best for: AR face masks for people who want to chat on camera without showing their whole face.

Masks and filters for people who don't want to show their face

Chatspin is a random video chat with two things that stand out: face masks and filters. The masks are AR overlays that hide your face while keeping the call live, which makes it easier for shy people to try video chat at all. The filters let you narrow by gender and country. It works in a browser and has phone apps. The basics are free; the gender filter and some extras sit behind a subscription.

Good
  • AR masks let shy people use video without showing their face
  • Country filter is free
  • Apps for both phone platforms
Not so good
  • Gender filter is paid
  • Heavy promotion of the premium tier
  • The crowd is smaller than OmeTV

7Shagle

Random video chatFree to startAccount optionalweb

Best for: Country and gender filters plus virtual masks, in a browser, with a busy crowd.

Free country filter and a busy browser crowd

Shagle is close to Chatspin in what it does - random video chat with masks and filters - but it lives in the browser only and the crowd feels a bit larger. You can pick a country for free, and gender filtering is part of the paid tier. Virtual masks hide your face if you want them to. There's a text-only mode too. The interface is plain and quick, which is a compliment on a site where the whole point is skipping fast.

Good
  • Free country filter
  • Virtual masks and a text-only mode
  • Fast, plain interface
Not so good
  • Gender filter is paid
  • No native app
  • Moderation is lighter than the bigger sites

8Chatrandom

Random video chatFree to startAccount optionalweb · iOS · Android

Best for: Random video plus themed chat rooms, so you can pick a topic instead of pure luck.

Random mode plus topic rooms

Chatrandom has been around since the early days and it's grown into a bundle: the standard random video chat, a gender filter, and a set of chat rooms organised by topic and language. If random matching wears you out, the rooms let you drop into a group with a shared interest instead. It has apps and a website. Free covers the basics; the gender filter and ad removal are paid.

Good
  • Topic and language rooms next to the random mode
  • Free country filter
  • Apps on iOS and Android
Not so good
  • Gender filter is paid
  • Interface pushes the premium tier
  • Average moderation

9Bazoocam

Random video chatFree to startNo account neededweb

Best for: Random video chat with built-in games to play while you talk, and a mostly European crowd.

Games inside the chat and a European crowd

Bazoocam started in France and still has a European feel, with a lot of French, Spanish and Italian speakers. Its one odd and lovable feature is games: you can play simple multiplayer games with the stranger you're matched with, which gives shy people something to do with their hands. No account, no download. The site is a bit dated in looks and the crowd is smaller than the global players, but it's a different kind of room.

Good
  • Mini games inside the chat
  • No account, no app needed
  • Distinct European crowd
Not so good
  • Small pool, especially outside European hours
  • Dated interface
  • Mostly French and Spanish speakers

Questions people ask

Which random video chat site has the most people?

OmeTV, by our experience at different hours across a week. Chatroulette is close during US and European evenings. The smaller sites (CamSurf, Bazoocam) can leave you waiting after midnight in your time zone.

Do I need to make an account?

Not on most of them. Chatroulette, OmeTV, CamSurf, Shagle and Bazoocam work straight from the browser. Monkey requires an account because it's an app. Emerald Chat works without one but its interest matching needs one.

Is random video chat safe?

Safe enough if you treat it like a public place. Keep your face in frame and your personal details out of it, don't click links people paste, and use the report button - on OmeTV and CamSurf it actually does something. Never move to another app because a stranger asks you to.

What happened to Omegle?

It shut down in November 2023. Everything on this list is what people moved to. We keep a separate list of Omegle alternatives if that's what you're looking for.
