CamSurf review: what it is, who it's for

A moderated, family-safe random video chat that takes its own rules seriously.

CamSurf positions itself as the clean one, and it mostly lives up to that. Moderators watch the feed, nudity and harassment get people removed, and the tone is friendlier than most. No sign-up is needed. It has apps for both phone platforms and a website. The crowd is smaller than the big names, so you may wait a bit at night, but what you get is more likely to be a person who actually wants to talk.

Why 'clean' matters here

Most random video sites say they moderate. CamSurf is one of the few where you can feel it - the proportion of blank cameras and creeps is lower, and reports get acted on. That makes it the one to recommend to someone trying random video chat for the first time.

Trade-offs

A smaller crowd means less variety. If you skip a lot, you'll start seeing the same people. The country filter and a few other extras are paid. The apps are fine, though the website on a phone works just as well.

It won't give you the chaotic energy of Chatroulette at 2am. That's the point.

Good
  • Active moderation you can actually notice
  • No account, apps on both platforms
  • Friendlier crowd for first-timers
Not so good
  • Smaller pool, repeats when you skip a lot
  • Country filter is paid
  • Quieter late at night
