Privacy policy

What Chat When Bored collects (very little), what it does with it, and how the outbound links and affiliate tracking work.

Short version: this site collects almost nothing, has no accounts, and never sees your conversations on any platform we link to. The long version follows.

What we collect

When you visit, our web server records the standard things web servers record: the page requested, the time, your IP address, and your browser's identification string. These logs are used to keep the site running and to see which pages are read. They're kept for a limited time and not sold or shared.

When you click a link out to a platform, we record that a click happened from which page to which platform. This is how we know which lists are useful. It doesn't include your name or anything about you beyond what's in the server log above.

If we enable analytics (Google Analytics or similar), that provider sets cookies and collects usage data under its own policy. We'll update this page if and when that's in place.

What we don't collect

No accounts, no email sign-up, no forms except the email address on the contact page, which is a plain email you choose to send. We don't see anything you do on the platforms we link to - your chats, your video, your account details are between you and them.

Some outbound links are affiliate links. When you click one, the platform may set a cookie in your browser so it can credit us if you sign up. That cookie belongs to the platform and is governed by its privacy policy. We receive aggregate reports (number of sign-ups, commission earned) and nothing identifying you.

Cookies

The site itself sets no cookies unless analytics is enabled, in which case the analytics provider's cookies apply. Platforms you click through to set their own.

Children

The site is written for adults and older teens. The pages marked 18+ are for adults only. We don't knowingly collect anything from anyone under 13, and there's nothing on the site that would.

Your rights

If you're in a place with data-protection law (the EU, UK, California and others), you can ask what we hold about you - almost certainly a server log line - and ask for it to be deleted. Email [email protected].

Changes

If this policy changes, the date at the bottom of the site changes with it.
