Chat When Bored is a small site that ranks places to talk to someone online - random chat, text, voice, AI companions and adult platforms - based on actually using them.

Chat When Bored started as a note on a phone: a list of sites that still worked after Omegle shut down, kept by someone who couldn't sleep and was tired of clicking through search results that were ads with a list stapled on. The note got long. Friends asked for it. It became this.

What it is

A set of ranked lists for one situation: you want to talk to someone, now, and you don't know where. That covers random video chat, text and voice chat with strangers, AI companions, and - for adults, clearly marked - live cam and unfiltered AI chat. Each platform has one profile, written once from using it, and that profile appears in every list it belongs on. The lists are ordered by what we think fits the search, and the reasons are written next to each entry.

What it isn't

It isn't a directory. There are hundreds of random chat sites and most of them are clones with no one on them, so the lists are short on purpose. It isn't neutral in the sense of having no opinions - every entry has one. And it isn't a safe space in the therapeutic sense. Where the thing you need is a person trained to listen, we say so and point at 7 Cups, which is free.

How it pays for itself

Some of the links are affiliate links. If you sign up to a platform through one, the platform may pay us a commission. It costs you nothing and it doesn't change the order of any list - a platform that paid would be above one that didn't only if it was better, and then it would be above it anyway. Adult platforms are on the site because adults search for them and deserve an honest page; they are kept on their own lists, marked 18+, and never mixed into the all-ages ones.
