Azar is one of the big phone apps for meeting strangers on video, and it has grown into something closer to a social app: profiles, a Lounge to browse people, interest matching where you both have to agree, and a Discover tab that only shows people online now. The basics are free; extra gender and country filters are paid. Its moderation is the most detailed in the category, including video that blurs itself when it detects rule-breaking.
What Azar is
Azar is a video chat app for meeting new people, made by Hyperconnect LLC. It runs on iOS and Android, and azarlive.com opens a browser version with gender and country options and a log-in button. It started as swipe-style random video chat and now mixes that with profiles. You can browse a selection of profiles in the Lounge, follow people and start a conversation when you're ready, find people by shared interests (you only move forward if you both agree), and use a Discover tab that only shows people who are active right now.
Free and premium
The App Store description says Azar offers many features for free, and that paid options add extra discovery preferences, including more gender and country filters. Prices are shown in the app.
Moderation
Azar describes its safety tools in more detail than most. Connections that don't meet its guidelines are cancelled automatically. Video Blur pauses the video when automated tools detect a violation and prompts the other person to report. The company says it combines automated systems and human review, watching both video and audio, with support and moderation teams working 24/7. The Azar Badge marks people who have chatted for a while without breaking the rules.
Age
The App Store rates Azar 17+.
What we could not verify
Most of the detail here comes from the App Store and Google Play listings, because azarlive.com loads as an app rather than a page of text. Premium prices aren't public. The App Store page notes that sample images may be AI-generated or use models.
Azar against the alternatives
Azar is the most social-app-like of the random video apps. For pure roulette without an account, OmeTV or CamSurf. For the 15-second mechanic, Monkey. For interest matching in a browser, Emerald Chat.
