Talkie review: what it is, who it's for

Polished AI characters with voices and a collectible-card feel - fun, not deep.

Talkie is a character-chat app with a glossy, game-like presentation: characters have art, voices, and there's a card-collecting layer on top. The conversations are decent and the voices are a nice touch. It's free to use with in-app purchases for cosmetics and extras. Like Character.AI, it's not an adult app. It's a good pick if you want AI chat that feels like a mobile game rather than a text box.

What stands out

The voices. Most companion apps are text; Talkie's characters talk back with generated voices that suit the character, which makes the whole thing feel less like typing into a form.

What doesn't

The gacha layer - card packs and cosmetics - is aimed at spending, and the app nudges you toward it. Memory is average. The community of characters is smaller than Character.AI's.

If you want a companion that knows your life, look at Replika. If you want something to play with for an evening, this is fine.

  • Free with a generous allowance
  • Game-like presentation that's fun to poke at
Not so good
  • Card and cosmetic purchases everywhere
  • Average memory
  • Not for adult content
