Kindroid gives you a blank sheet and a lot of control: you write the backstory, the personality, the way it talks, and it follows. There's no content filter for adults, so it won't refuse a romantic or explicit scene. It has a memory system, voice calls, and group chats with several characters. Free lets you try it; the subscription unlocks the full message allowance and the extras. Runs in a browser and as apps.

Control versus convenience

Nomi is warm out of the box; Kindroid is what you make it. If you enjoy writing character sheets, this is the better tool. If you'd rather it just work, Nomi is easier.

What's included

Voice, selfies generated to match the character, group chat with multiple Kindroids at once, and 'journal' memory you can edit by hand - which is the feature that makes it feel reliable, because you can fix what it got wrong.

It's an adult app in the sense that adults are trusted, not in the sense that it's only for one thing. Plenty of people use it for platonic roleplay.
