18+ only. This platform is for adults. Under 18? Try the all-ages video chat list.

Kindroid gives you a blank sheet and a lot of control: you write the backstory, the personality, the way it talks, and it follows. There's no content filter for adults, so it won't refuse a romantic or explicit scene. It has a memory system, voice calls, and group chats with several characters. Free lets you try it; the subscription gives the full message allowance and the extras. Runs in a browser and as apps.

What Kindroid is

Kindroid hands you the controls. You write your companion's backstory, implant key memories, set the personality and pick a voice, and it grows from there. It does real-time voice calls with transcription and text-to-speech, generates selfies, and supports group scenarios with several characters at once. The App Store lists the seller as Beautifully Incorporated and rates the app 18+.

What it costs

The App Store lists a Kindroid subscription at $15.99 a month, $42.99 for three months or $159.99 a year, plus two higher tiers, Ultra at $28.99 and MAX at $68.99. Extras are sold separately: an additional Kindroid slot at $3.49 (four for $11.49), selfie credits at 50 for $6.99 or 100 for $11.49, and 500,000 audio credits for $14.99 for voice. Kindroid's help centre covers subscriptions and in-app purchases, but the pages did not load for us when we checked, so the numbers here are the App Store's. Web checkout prices may differ; we couldn't verify them.

Control over the character

This is Kindroid's edge. Where Replika gives you a companion and Nomi gives you memory, Kindroid gives you the backstory field, memory implants and voice selection, so the character is yours from line one. If you've ever been frustrated by a companion "forgetting" who it is, this is the fix.

Voice, selfies, groups

Voice calls run in real time using transcription and text-to-speech; audio credits meter the usage. Selfies are diffusion-generated images of your Kindroid, metered by selfie credits. Group chats let several Kindroids interact in a scenario you set.

Kindroid against the alternatives

Kindroid versus Nomi is the choice for adults who want memory and no hand-holding. Kindroid: more control, more metered extras. Nomi: simpler plans, group chat, friendlier start. Replika if you want mainstream polish. Table below.

Verdict

Kindroid is the companion for people who want to write the character themselves and talk to it out loud. The metering is the trade-off: voice and selfies cost credits on top of the plan. If that's fine, it's the most controllable companion here; if not, Nomi is the simpler sibling.
