Wakie review: what it is, who it's for
Voice calls with strangers about a topic you post - talking without a camera or a keyboard.
Checked September 14, 2026 · wakie.com
Wakie is voice. You post a topic ('can't sleep, talk to me about anything' works fine), and someone who likes it calls you. No video, no face, just a voice conversation with a stranger. It started as an app for waking people up with a phone call from a random person, and it kept that spirit. It's phone-only and needs an account. The free tier covers normal use; there's a premium for extra features.
Why voice is different
Text is slow and video is exposing. A voice call sits in between: you can lie in the dark with your eyes closed and still have a real conversation. People are more honest on Wakie than on video sites because nobody is performing for a camera.
The topic mechanic
Because you post a topic first, the call already has a subject when it connects. That removes the dead 'so... hi' opening. Topics range from silly to serious, and the serious ones get answered too.
The crowd is international with a lot of people learning English. Expect some accents and some patience needed both ways.
- Voice only - no camera, no typing
- Topic first, so calls start with something to say
- Good for people who can't sleep
- Phone app only, account required
- Smaller crowd than video platforms
- Call quality depends on both connections
